Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort
Nozawa Onsen is said to be opened in 8th century. Nozawa offers more than just a ski trip though – experience not only the culture, food, but also 13 public hot springs and the fire festival. During a back country skiing, we can look up the biggest beech tree, it’s against the rules not to take a soak in an onsen bath after it. There are 13 “Soto-Yu” public bathhouses in Nozawa where locals and visitors alike are welcomed to go and take baths for free. One of those bathhouses is Oyu. The stately elegant wood construction with the raised center roof to let the steam out is the classic “Yu-ya” (bathhouse) style. This is onsen culture at its finest.
In 1911 skiing was introduced to Japan by an Austrian Major Theodor von Lerch and came to Nozawa the following year. It was in 1930 that one of the founders of alpine skiing, Hannes Schneider from Austria, introduced the skiing techniques to people in Nozawa .

Consequently, Sensoji was built nearby for the goddess of Kannon. The temple was completed in 645, making it Tokyo's oldest and popular temple.
